Encyclopedia
The Casey Scorpions Football Club is an Australian rules football
club in the Victorian Football League
(VFL). The club was founded in 1903 as the Springvale Football Club and played under the name Springvale. In its history it has won 21 premierships. In more recent years the club has played in the VFA/VFL and has won six premierships: 1983 (2nd Div), 1987, 1995, 1996, 1998 and 1999. Nevertheless, they were unable to survive in Springvale and have played in a number of different suburbs over the past ten years.
The club is now based at the VFL complex at Casey and plays home games at Casey Fields
in Cranbourne East. To reflect their various moves the team was renamed from "Springvale Scorpions" to simply "Scorpions" and, in 2006, to their current name of the "Casey Scorpions". While playing as the Casey Scorpions the legal name of the club is still the Springvale Football Club Ltd and it retains an SFC monogram on its guernsey. From 2009, Casey is affiliated with the Melbourne Football Club
after ending its affiliation with St Kilda.
