There were 466 households out of which 29.6% had children under the age of 18 living with them, 53.9% were married couples
living together, 8.8% had a female householder with no husband present, and 32.8% were non-families. 30.3% of all households were made up of individuals and 19.1% had someone living alone who was 65 years of age or older. The average household size was 2.38 and the average family size was 2.93.
In the town the population was spread out with 24.1% under the age of 18, 9.5% from 18 to 24, 25.5% from 25 to 44, 24.4% from 45 to 64, and 16.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 38 years. For every 100 females there were 91.2 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 88.8 males.

History
When the town was laid out in 1827, it was called Eugene Station. It was later renamed after the lake and city of Cayuga in New York. The name is based on the Iroquois term Gwa-u-geh, meaning "the place of taking out" (in terms of a portage).
