. He was known primarily as an excellent fielder.
Sánchez starred as a baseball player in the Mexican League from 1964
to 1971
, primarily with the Mexico Tigers
, before joining the New York Yankees
organization in 1972. After spending a few months in the former Yankees minor league affiliate in Syracuse
the Syracuse Chiefs, Sánchez joined the Yankees on June, 1972
, and was the Yankees regular third baseman for the rest of the year. In 1973
