The municipality was part of the Vevey District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Chardonne became part of the new district of Riviera-Pays-d'Enhaut.

Chardonne has an area, , of 10.3 square kilometre. Of this area, 4.84 square kilometre or 46.9% is used for agricultural purposes, while 3.82 square kilometre or 37.0% is forested.
