officer who went on to be Deputy First Sea Lord.

He became Assistant Chief of the Naval Staff in 1935 and Commander of 1st Cruiser Squadron in the Mediterranean Fleet
in 1936. In 1938 he became President of the Royal Naval College, Greenwich
.
He served in World War II
as Commander-in-Chief, America and West Indies Station and then, from 1942, as Deputy First Sea Lord. He died shortly after leaving office in 1946.
