Charles Lindley born Carl Gustaf Lindley, was a Swedish

activist.
For many years in his youth, Lindley was a merchant sailor
working on English
sea vessels, and he became very active in the United Kingdom
workers' movement. It was from his British comrades that Carl got his English-sounding nickname Charles, which he kept upon his return to Sweden.
Charles Lindley was the founder of the Swedish Transport Worker's Union in 1897 and co-founder of the International Transport Workers' Federation
