Charles Mok

Charles Peter Mok is a Hong Kong based Internet entrepreneur and IT
advocate. He founded HKNet
in 1994, and contributed the company's expansion as a major IP telecommunications operator in Hong Kong before its acquisition by NTT Communications in 2000. He was a founding chairman of Internet Society, Hong Kong Chapter, and the ex-officio member and ex-president of the Hong Kong Information Technology Federation. He was also a past chairman and a co-founder of the Hong Kong Internet Service Providers Association.
He has been actively promoting the industry's development and digital comprehension in the region since the early 1990s. He has been actively participating in the community to promote fair competition, media freedom, personal privacy, consumer protection, healthcare, transport, human rights and democracy development in Hong Kong. In 1999, he was awarded as one of Hong Kong’s " Ten Outstanding Young Digi Persons”.
He is currently a regular columnist for a number of local print media, such as Hong Kong Economic Journal
(since 2000) and CUP magazine (since 2005).
In Hong Kong's 2008 Legislative Council Election, Charles Mok lost to Samson Tam
for the seat of the Information Technology Functional Constituency. He lost at 1982 versus 2017 votes, or 35 votes behind. Charles Mok had commenced a legal action in the High Court of Hong Kong against Samson Tam
in relation to the alleged misconduct of Samson Tam
during the period leading up to Hong Kong's 2008 Legislative Council Election.
