officer who went on to be Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Station

in 1788 and served throughout the Napoleonic Wars

in 1802, he was given command of HMS Pique and captured the French brigs Phaeton and Voltageur in March 1806. He served in operations in North America in 1814 and later commanded HMS Northumberland
as she transported Napoleon Bonaparte
to exile on St Helena in 1815. He served as Commissioner of Plymouth
Dockyard in 1829 and was appointed Commander-in-Chief, Pacific Station
in 1837.
