Charles Ross (born 17 December 1937, Philadelphia), is an American sculptor and earthwork
artist. He was a 2011 Guggenheim Fellow.
He graduated from University of California, Berkeley
, with a B.A., and M.A. in Sculpture in 1962.
He created an earthwork known as Star Axis, which is a naked eye observatory and architectonic sculpture. Star Axis's geometry is derived from the shifting relationship of earth to the sun and the north star.
The work was projected to cost $3 million.
