Charles Samuel "Sam" Jackson (September 15, 1860 - December 27, 1924) was a prominent newspaper publisher in the U.S. state

Born in Deltaville, Virginia
, Jackson went west
in 1880, settling in Pendleton, Oregon
. There he became publisher of the Pendleton-based East Oregonian
, developing it into a successful regional paper.
In 1902, a group of influential Portlanders persuaded Jackson to move to Portland
to revive the failing Portland Evening Journal. Under his direction, the paper was renamed the Oregon Journal
, and succeeded as the main competitor to Portland's daily paper, The Oregonian
. In his first editorial at the helm of the paper, he declared that the Journal would in "head and heart stand for the people" and that it would not be a "dull and selfish sheet."
Jackson led the Journal as owner, publisher, and editor until his death. His son Philip succeeded him.
In 1917, Jackson donated 88 acres (356,000 m²) on Marquam Hill
in Portland to the University of Oregon
Medical School; the site, then known as Sam Jackson Park, is now the campus of the Oregon Health & Science University
.
Jackson was inducted into the Oregon Newspaper Hall of Fame in 1979. Jackson Tower
is named for him.
