The station consists of an island layout
and side platform
; Platform 1 & 2 (island platform) has a large red brick building with a roof-sheltered open area, while platform 3 has a small weatherboard sheltered waiting area at the platform entry gate, and is not aligned with the island platform. A large Metcard
ticket vending machine is located at the entrance gates to platforms 1 & 2, which is able to dispense most ticketing options and also accept credit cards, notes and coins. A small coin-only Metcard ticket vending machine is located at the entrance gate to platform 3. An underpass is situated at the Flinders Street
end of the station.

The station was one of four used for the first trials of the myki
ticketing system on the rail network, carried out in August 2008 by Kamco
