It lies in Yungay Province

and derives its name from the Quechua
words meaning "fits in the center", in reference to its location between the mountains of Huascarán
and Contrahierba.
The standard climbing route is the Southwest Ridge; a moderate snow climb that is popular with climbers and can be crowded at times. It possesses a difficulty rating of PD+/AD- on the French System for grading alpine routes. Other established climbing routes include the Southeast Ridge (alpine grade TD-) and East Face Direct (alpine grade TD).
