In a recent article in the Orlando Sentinel, Scott Maxwell reported that Mr. Dorworth was facing foreclosure, has been unable to satisfy his end of a $2.7 million judgment in a business dispute, and recently lost his drivers license for lapsed auto insurance and was cited for not paying tolls.

Dorworth listed a net worth of $186,000. But his assets and liabilities do not directly add up. And the only way he was able to arrive at a positive net worth was by claiming his house was worth $2 million. The Seminole County property appraiser disagrees, setting the value around $970,000. Zillow has the 8200 square feet (761.8 m²) mansion valued even lower — at $830,000.

Dorworth said real-estate brokers helped him arrive at the $2 million figure.

Another recent article from the Times/Herald Tallahassee Bureau, Dorworth financed his bid to become speaker through his re-election campaign fund and his political committee, Citizens for an Enterprising Democracy. A good portion — more than 30 percent, or $40,000-plus — went into his pocket for reimbursements in the past two years, records show.

Among the recent expenses: a $600 flight to Miami for the Super Bowl and a $527 stay at the Biltmore Hotel in Coral Gables.

An article from the Orlando Sentinal about Mr Dorworth's pending divorce Elizabeth Dorworth's attorney Andrea Black of Orlando, said the couple's family situation should be relevant to voters.

"I don't really see this as just a personal case. The financial issues are important not only to my client but also in this case to the public," Black said. "I see a man who is not supporting his wife of 10 years, a woman who supported him in his campaign and who's now being kicked to the curb, along with her children."
