. Kelsey is one of the few prominent jazz musicians to focus exclusively on the soprano saxophone.
Beginning in the 1990s, Kelsey recorded a number of CDs under his own name, mostly for the CIMP label. As a critic, he's written for a number of jazz publications, including Cadence, Jazziz, and JazzTimes
magazines. He's also written extensively for Allmusic. As a musician, Kelsey is known for his distinctive, iconoclastic style; as a writer, for sometimes harsh, contrarian critical stances.
