McHugh began playing drums at the age of three and attended the Philadelphia School for the Performing Arts. At the age of fourteen he was already playing recording sessions and performing live shows. In the early eighties he joined the band Whiteheart, and became famous for his solid drum sound.

Chris McHugh is on the Nashville "A" list of session drummers. His recording credits span over twenty years with the top gold and platinum artists of the music industry. He has toured with Amy Grant
