Tybring-Gjedde has been a member of the Progress Party since 1979. He was a member of the Oslo city council from 2003 to 2005, and has since 2005 been a Member of Parliament from Oslo. Since his entrance in parliament, he has also been a member of the Standing Committee on Finance and Economic Affairs
