1998 pageant where she made the top ten. The pageant was the second in history to not be broadcast live, this time due to legal troubles of President Bill Clinton. At the last minute, pageant officials decided not to go with the "Hurricane Option" (crowning more than one finalist at the pageant and keeping the real winner's identity secret until the taped event could be broadcast), and airing the pageant on a tape-delay from Shreveport, Louisiana
in August 1998. The pageant was won by Vanessa Minnillo
of South Carolina

In 2001, Cole competed in the Miss Houston USA pageant, and won both the Congeniality and Photogenic awards. She later competed in the Miss Texas USA 2002 pageant, one of six former Miss Texas Teen USA titleholders who participated in the event. This was her first and final attempt at the title.
