Christoph "Sumi" Sumann is an Austria

As many fellow biathletes Sumann picked up the sport switching from cross-country skiing
he had been doing since childhood. By mid-1990s he entered junior ski team of Austria
and he made it onto the senior level later on. He was a skillful sprinter at the time.
Sumann started as a biathlete in 2000 and he has been doing on top level for 11 seasons now. In his maiden season in biathlon he made quite a debut finishing in the top 20 of the World Cup races on a regular basis.
His first World Cup win came in 2002–03 Biathlon World Cup season and he finished 15th in the World Cup total. The subsequent seasons were quite a success for Sumann as he managed to remain in top 20 in the world all the time. In 2006–07 Biathlon World Cup Sumann won the mass-start race and he was wearing the red bib as the leader in this event up to the last stage of the season, the fact is quite outstanding for Austrians in biathlon despite the fact that he eventually lost it.
His most brilliant season to date is 2009–10 Biathlon World Cup
. He won two silvers at the 2010 Winter Olympics
in the relay and the pursuit, being runner-up in the World Cup total along with title in the individual cup made him one of the most decorated athletes of that season.
2010–11 Biathlon World Cup
was fraught with hardships for Sumann as he caught intestinal disease in Ostersund

in December and he has been trying to combat it through the season which gave its results at Biathlon World Championships 2011
