at the University of Glasgow Medical School. He graduated there in 1978, and returned to Dundee where he worked as a psychologist for four years. In 1982 however, he decided to follow his ambition to work in television and radio, and began studying at the University of Dundee
. In 1985 he graduated as a professional newsreader and broadcaster, and went onto pursue a career.
