Chu Mu-yen (Traditional Chinese: 朱木炎; pinyin
: Zhū Mùyán; born March 14, 1982) is a Taekwondo
athlete from Taiwan
. He is the second Taiwanese athlete and first male to win a gold medal
at the Olympics, winning in men's under 58-kilogram class in Taekwondo at the Athens 2004 Games. He was 22 years old and 1.73 meters tall when he won the Gold at Athens, and frequently competed against larger, stronger players in his Olympic Fly division. In the 2008 Olympics, Chu won the bronze medal
in the men's under 58-kilogram class in Taekwondo.
He also won the gold medal in the 2003 World Taekwondo Championships
In December 2008, Chu Mu-yen earned his master's degree in Occupational Therapy from the University of Pittsburgh
, Pittsburgh Pennsylvania. He began working on his PhD at the University of South Florida in the Fall of 2009. Though busy with his studies, Chu Mu-yen has participated in Taekwondo clinics and lectures in the greater Pittsburgh area.
In August 2011 Chu Mu-yen arrived in Scotland to continue his studies. He continues to participate in training sessions throughout Scotland.
