Biography

Tom Claude Stanfield Moore was born in June 1853 to Thomas Cooper Moore (1827-1901) who was a painter who had architectural training. His father was one of his teachers. Tom the younger was apprenticed as a lithographer and by the age of 27 he called himself an artist which he finessed to "Marine artist" when he filled out the census when he was 37 and still living with his father. In 1879 they both created a painting called "The Pool of London" which they both signed. This painting sold for 12,000 pounds in 1999. Stanfield Moore moved to London in 1882.
