Personality

Usually, Cleo's attitude is selfish, spoiled, competitive, arrogant, and unkind. She acts like this because she is an ancient princess and is used to being treated as royalty. However, she has been known to have a heart of gold on occasion. Cleo can work well with others if they share a common goal, and shows that she can be a highly effective organizer and leader. . However, in the second season, she is finally confronted with her own compromising, overbearing nature when the regular Fearleading Squad resigns. Afterward, she slowly starts to become more accepting and accommodating towards other ghouls.

When she gets really upset, Cleo lets loose a glass-shattering scream. In more severe cases, she starts to obsessively clean things, like polishing the trophies in the trophy case. This and her rigid perfectionism could be an indication of strong OCD. In the webisodes, Cleo is occasionally seen using one of the Ancient Egyptian artifacts that she keeps in her locker, even though her father tells her that they are cursed.

In The Books

In the Monster High books, Cleo is much nicer to the other girls (mostly due to their status as RAD's). Cleo's name is changed to Cleopatra de Nile, and Cleo is a nickname. She is described to be more with Clawdeen Wolf in the books. Apparently, Cleo was one of the popular girls at Merston High, despite being a RAD (Regular Attribute Dodgers) In The Ghoul Next Door, Cleo is one of the few monsters who are against the idea of human-monster equality. She strongly dislikes "Normies", a nickname used for humans. When she is offered a photo shoot for Teen Vogue

, she does everything in her power to get her friends involved. However, when Brett Redding's (Normie) idea of a video is introduced, Cleo hates it, mostly because it is on the same day as her photo shoot. She tries to put an end to it, losing her friends in the process. When all seems lost, she forms an alliance with Bekka (antagonist of the story), which backfires.

Family

Cleo lives with her father, Ramses de Nile and her older sister, Nefera. In the books, her father is an antiques dealer. To date, there is no mention of Cleo's mother. In the webisode "Miss Infearmation", Cleo mentions having an older sister named Nefera, who is out of the country with her father. Clawd Wolf's diary mentions Nefera being the previous Fearleading squad captain. In Cleo's Basic 2.0 diary, Nefera is said to be a super model. Based on both the wave three diaries and the webisodes, Cleo and Nefera do not get along well. Nefera does not make an appearance in the books, however. In some parts of the Monster High books, Cleo mentions having an aunt named Nefertiti

Friends

Cleo is friends with Ghoulia Yelps, Clawdeen Wolf, Draculaura, Frankie Stein and Lagoona Blue in the books and webisodes.

Cleo is best friends with Ghoulia. Although she uses Ghoulia a lot more like a personal assistant, Cleo cares for her and tries to help when Ghoulia is in need of something. Since Lagoona is a warm hearted person, Cleo seems to get along with her fine and has never done anything bad to her. Clawdeen and Cleo sometimes don't get along sometimes, usually because of Cleo's attitude. Draculaura and Cleo also get along fine, but sometimes, Cleo deliberately does something bad to Draculaura (without Draculaura noticing), like in the webisode, "The Hot Boy". In the webisode "New Ghoul At School", Frankie mistakenly hurts Cleo's feelings when she tells Cleo that Frankie's boyfriend is Deuce Gorgon. Since Deuce is Cleo's boyfriend (which Frankie does not know), Cleo thinks that Deuce has deceived her.

Pet

Cleo's pet is a snake named Hisette, whose attitude reflects Cleo's. Hisette's scales are teal colored (in the webisodes) and she wears golden rings around her head, neck and tail. In the books, Deuce Gorgon gave Hisette to Cleo saying that she was his mom's first gray hair. Also only in the books, Cleo also has seven cats named Chisisi, Bastet, Akins, Ebonee, Ufa, Usi, and Miu-Miu.

Love Interests

Deuce Gorgon is Cleo's current boyfriend. She used to date Clawdeen's brother, Clawd, but according to Ghoulia, it ended badly. Deuce is the son of Medusa and has inherited her mother's powers to turn things into stone, hence the glasses. In the webisodes, his hair (green snakes) is shown, while on the other hand, he wears a hat in the books. Cleo is upset when Deuce takes Melody Carver (Normie) to a school dance (in the books). Deuce apologizes, though, stating that he was forced to go and gives Hisette to Cleo as a gift.

Personality File

Cleo is haughty, demanding and regal which befits her royal linage. While she expects to be deferred to, she also possesses a certain nobleness oblige resulting in great acts of kindness and generosity on her part.

Parental Participation

Cleo's father is the chairman of MH construction committee and oversees all the new building plans. Publicly, he appears aloof and uninterested in the mundane happenings at MH but coincidentally much of the business he has here seems to correspond with the events where Cleo is involved.

Academic Standing

As a child, Cleo was tutored by the greatest in her father's kingdom. This tutoring has given her a broad knowledge of many subjects although she really excels in dead languages and geometry. Cleo's biggest hurdle has been the realization that we don't allow servants to do homework or take tests for our students.

Social Interaction

Cleo is a princess but she is not a mean ghoul. This has allowed her to establish genuine relationships with fellow students who can "let Cleo be Cleo" even when "her imperial bossiness" forgets that at Monster High, she is just one of the many ghouls.

Overall

Cleo de Nile has great leadership potential and seems to have escaped the traps that can turn rulers into tyrants. Cleo is the personification of a teenage monster with a pedigree who is learning that respect is not based on birthright but on actions.
