Although the source code offers an Apache 2.0 license, contributions are governed by the VMware contributors license for individuals and corporations. These license grant both copyright and patent access and protection to the VMware corporation, which is the same model that VMware has followed with the Spring Framework from SpringSource, which it acquired in 2009.
