. The institution was founded on March 20, 1935, and its football team currently plays in the Primera B Nacional, which is the second division of the Argentine league system. Home games are played at the Estadio Norberto "Tito" Tomaghello which has a capacity of approximately 8,000 seats.
Even though the club was founded as early as 1935, Defensa had to wait until 1977 to make its debut in the regionalised 5th tier of Argentine football, Primera D Metropolitana
. The team quickly promoted to upper levels, first to Primera C Metropolitana
in 1982, and then to Primera B Metropolitana
in 1985.
The team colours used to be blue and white, but in 1981 they were changed to yellow and green according to the colours of its sponsor, the local bus
company "El Halcón".
In the 2005/06 season the club finished 5th in the Apertura and 17th in the Clausura. Despite finishing 11th overall, results over the previous 2 seasons ensured that Defensa finished second bottom of the Metropolitana relegation table. As a result, Defensa needed to play in a 2 legged promotion/relegation playoff against Club Deportivo Morón
. The game finished 4-4 on aggregate with goals in 92 and 95 minutes in the second leg, and Defensa y Justicia finally could kept its place in Nacional B.
