and it was created in 1958. Since 1971 it is organized by the Football Association of Greenland
.
Usually the championship has three phases. The first one consists of matches between clubs that are geographically close to each other (local phase). The winners of this phase play in a second regional phase. The finalists play in the third phase, which is the true national championship.
