In the season following being drafted by the Flyers, Fraser was traded to the Chicago Blackhawks on February 19, 2004, while still in the WHL, along with Jim Vandermeer
and a 2nd round selection (Bryan Bickell

and a 4th round selection (R. J. Anderson
) in the 2004. Turning pro in 2004–05
