is a term frequently used as a synonym for medical herbalism. The herbalist Hein Zeylstra chose in 1991 to establish the CPP out of a desire to provide medical herbalism with a credible and rational basis through training and research as well as in practice.

Members of the CPP are required to have a recognised qualification in medical herbalism and conducts continuing professional development with its members in order to ensure that the practitioners are up to date with the latest developments in their field. They recognise the importance of protecting the public interest in this regard and have members in eleven countries, particularly in the Anglophone world.

They provide ongoing professional training for herbalists and other healthcare professionals, a register of members, an online resources library and professional indemnity insurance.
