under the age of 35 and working mainly in the United Kingdom
. The award was established by Professors Tony James (Unilever Research
) and Henry Arnstein (Biochemical Society
). The medal takes its name from a Unilever research laboratory near Bedford in the UK, Colworth House
.
The medal was first awarded in 1963 and many of those receiving it have later become respected scientists. Examples include Hans Kornberg
