The Communist Party is a political party

. It was founded in 1989 in the aftermath of the split of the Communist Party of Belgium
along linguistic lines. The political secretary of the KP is Jaak Perquy.
The KP publishes a newspaper, Agora. The youth wing evolved into Graffiti Jeugddiensthttp://www.graffiti-jeugddienst.be/, an apolitical youth association, in the early 1990s. Later another youth wing, Jong-KP, was established.
In December 2009, al political activities of the Flemish KP were re- centered in the Brussels federation. A new Communist Party is to be set up along a national unifying political line. The KP Vlaanderen has ceased to exist to give room to the creation of a new Unified left in Belgium.
