Out of the forested land, all of the forested land area is covered with heavy forests. The municipality was part of the old Nyon District until it was dissolved on 31 August 2006, and Coppet became part of the new district of Nyon.

Coppet is first mentioned in 1294 as Copetum. In 1347 it was mentioned as Copet.Geography
Coppet has an area, , of 1.9 square kilometre. Of this area, 0.63 square kilometre or 33.7% is used for agricultural purposes, while 0.06 square kilometre or 3.2% is forested.
