Corbin City was incorporated as a city by an Act of the New Jersey Legislature
on March 11, 1922, from portions of Weymouth Township
.
Corbin City is one of several New Jersey municipalities considering consolidation. Corbin City would consolidate with neighboring Upper Township
in Cape May County
, due to proximity and that Corbin City's children attend Upper Township schools. There has not yet been any public discussion as to whether or not Atlantic County would cede the land to Cape May. Currently, there are no municipalities within New Jersey that have incorporated lands within multiple counties.

In the city the population was spread out with 29.9% under the age of 18, 4.9% from 18 to 24, 29.3% from 25 to 44, 25.4% from 45 to 64, and 10.5% who were 65 years of age or older. The median age was 36 years. For every 100 females there were 98.3 males. For every 100 females age 18 and over, there were 105.0 males.
