. Most of her family played/associated with the Grand Ole Opry. Her mother was diagnosed with manic depression and Cortney's music ambition was derailed. Cortney's musical genes emerged again after the passing of her mother many years later. She went to McGavock High School in Nashville. She attended two years of college before she dropped out to pursue art. She is married to Todd Tidwell, who is Cortney's right hand in the production of her music. To date they have two children and live in Nashville.

Spring 2005, Tidwell released her debut self-entitled record through Nashville label Sissy Bragg Records, while touring as an opening act for Lou Barlow

In 2009, Tidwell released an album entitled "Boys". With tracks like "Oh, China" which features a traditional Chinese melody and (indistinct) English vocals.

In 2010, Tidwell worked again with Kurt Wagner

 of Lambchop. They called their project KORT and released an album called "Invariable Heartache" which contains new versions of songs once recorded for the Chart Label (which was run by Tidwell's grandfather).
