middle distance runner who specialized in the 1500 metres
. After retiring he became a noted sports official.
He was born in 1955. Masback became US Indoor
champion in the mile run
in 1980. He won two bronze medals in the 1500 metres at the AAA Championships, in 1978 and 1981, and another bronze medal at the 1985 Pacific Conference Games
. He also competed at the 1985 IAAF World Cup
.
His personal best times were 3:35.28 minutes in the 1500 metres, achieved in 1982, and 3:52.02 in the mile run, achieved in July 1979 at Bislett stadion
in Oslo
.
In the late 1990s Masback was hired as chief executive officer for USA Track & Field. He resigned in 2008 to become Director of Business Affairs for Nike
's Global Sports Marketing Division.
