History

Crosslee developed as a small community around a cotton mill

, which opened in 1793, closing due to fire damage in 1858. A factory used for the production of cordite fuses during the First World War existed within the village, and was demolished in 1985. A further mill building still exists beside the river, having been redeveloped to provide office space.
