Cuchara is situated on the eastern slopes of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains
in south-central Colorado. Cuchara Pass, at almost 10,000 feet, is a few miles south of the town of Cuchara. The Cuchara River flows on the outskirts of town. The San Isabel National Forest
surrounds the town.
Cuchara is locally famous for a number of notable paranormal and supernatural sightings. Most of these sightings focus around the legend of Robert A. Leger, who became notorious for founding the short-lived Furiae cult, who were based in south-central Colorado in the early 20th century.
