In May 2011, a class action lawsuit was filed against CyberDefender, initiated by Joseph Thurman, Terry Drymon and John Abronski in Chicago, Illinois. The plaintiffs claimed that the Registry Cleaner did not clean the Windows registry effectively and in some cases caused Windows to stop functioning altogether. The plaintiffs hired an independent computer expert to corroborate these claims. A settlement was reached in June 2011 and is waiting final approval in September 2011.
