DNA was originally founded as the cell phone operator of the Finnet group of current and former telephone cooperatives after there was a splitup in the association. The Helsinki Telephone Association (now Elisa Oyj
) left Finnet and they needed to found an own operator, which they did in 2000. In 2006 there began to be new difficulties between the remaining Finnet companies. The largest members merged themselves with DNA and left the association.
