Damapati (Latin domus patus) in India was a term for the master or sovereign of the home or piece of land (domain, street) (dama) comparable to the title of Freiherr
or baron
. The title is mostly not hereditary like the tile of Don
, but given as an honorary tile. The equivalent of the title of Ritter or caballero in ancient India was asvapati (asva=horse + pati=lord).
The Hindi equivalent of damapati is dampati and in the Persian Yasna it is given Deng-paiti [1] meaning wise prince.
