In Sumerian mythology, Damu is a god
of vegetation
and rebirth
. He is a son of Enki
and Nininsinna,or Bau and Ninurta
and he kept the sap flowing and helped to regulate the death-rebirth cycle of nature.
Damu also seems to be a local offshoot of Tammuz.
