Dan accepted a scholarship to Penn State University, where he was the starting point guard on the basketball team his freshman year. He was one of Penn State's all time leaders in scoring and assists, and he was named to the All Big-Ten team. The 1995-1996 Nittany Lions basketball team started the season with a 19-2 record and was ranked #9 in the country at that point during the season.

Personal

In June, 2005, Dan accepted a position as 3rd Assistant Basketball coach with Penn State University. Dan's brother Brian Earl is an assistant men's basketball coach at Princeton University
