McCarthy, known to his longtime friends from high school as 'Cartz' or 'Carth,' began his career as a pizza maker at the Imo's chain in Webster Groves, Missouri
. His original score and performance of "The Pizza Man Opera" is a classic.
He attended The Conservatory of Theatre Arts at Webster University where he studied contemporary and classical theatre. After college, he moved to New York City
first but after a year there he moved back to the Midwest.
Danny created, together with friend and Alleyball writer/director Dan Consiglio, SOXTALK with Pat and Tony, a series of four 30-minute shows that aired on Comcast Sports Net Chicago earlier this spring. McCarthy starred as "Pat", a longtime know-it-all White Sox supporter.
In 2007, McCarthy appeared in an AT&T
commercial in which he portrayed a deli owner placing an order over the phone for roast beef. After the meat distributor said that he was all out, the deli owner cracked a joke saying "what, did your wife wolf it down for breakfast?", after which the call dropped out and left him awkwardly retracting his joke.
Most recently, McCarthy appeared in a television ad for True Value
retail stores.
