After going to high school at Northeast (Lincoln, NE), Noonan attended the University of Nebraska. Noonan made his professional debut in the NFL in 1987 with the Dallas Cowboys. He played for the Dallas Cowboys and Green Bay Packers over the course of his six-year career.
Noonan's best year statistically was 1988, as he ran back an interception for a touchdown and recorded 7.5 sacks, which represented half of his career total of 15.
