, many of its buildings were rebuilt even though some houses were unaffected in the outskirts of the village. On July 11, 1997 a fire destroyed most of the forests in the southeastern part of Ilia, devastating some square kilometers of forestland. The fire was situated between Matesi
and Dafnoula. The fire burnt for about 3 hours and began at 08:00 (UTC)/11:00 (EET). Another forest fire occurred a decade later in 2007. On Sunday August 26, fires spread from nearby Andritsaina and ravaged most of the area leaving some patches of forest unaffected.
