In 1992, Shula was named head coach of the Bengals. At age 32, he was one of the youngest men to achieve such a position with an NFL team. His stint with the Bengals was unsuccessful, however. The team compiled a 19–53 record over Shula's four and a half years at the helm. Shula lost 50 games faster than any NFL coach in history (69 games).
