In 1983, Banks joined Wigan Athletic as an apprentice He played 79 youth and reserve team games for Wigan over two seasons. In 1986, Banks entered Philadelphia Textile where he played on the men’s soccer team from 1986 to 1989. He led the team in goals with 10 in 1989 and is ninth on the career assists list with 20. He was selected as a first team All American
