David Elitch is an American musician best known for his work with the American
progressive rock
band The Mars Volta
. Dave grew up in Sebastopol,CA and later moved to LA to join Los Angeles
-based metal band Daughters of Mara
before joining The Mars Volta in a touring capacity in 2009, following the departure of Thomas Pridgen
. Elitch made his live debut with the band in Oslo
and completed the second leg of the Octahedron
tour.
Regarding his role within the band, Elitch states that he "walk[s] the line between [former drummers] Jon Theodore
and Thomas Pridgen
because I think that's how I play anyway and it's the best thing to do for the music at this point in time. So I’m trying to accomplish that by just keeping it just really solid, where the guys can feel comfortable and when I have a chance just play out and do some chops I will. But that’s not my priority. [...] Right now I’m just doing the European tour and the Australian tour and then they’re going to take a break because it's the end of the tour cycle. Omar [Rodriguez-Lopez] directs a lot of his own movies so he’s busy doing that."
