. Lujan was first elected to the Arizona House of Representatives in 2004, and served three terms representing District 15, which covers most of the central Phoenix area. He was selected by the House Democratic Caucus to serve as its leader for the 49th Legislative Session. He has previously served as the Ranking Democrat on the House K-12 Education Committee, and he has also been a member of the House Appropriations Committee.
In 2010, Lujan was narrowly defeated in the Democratic Primary when he ran for the position of Attorney General in the Arizona 2010 election
