David Munro (documentary film-maker)

David Ivor Munro was an English documentary film-maker.
His parents were Hugh Munro, an actor and television director and Pamela Barnard, also an an actor. Following a varied series of jobs after leaving school, Munro was an actor for a time appearing in such series as Orlando
(1966-67) and Tightrope (1972).
A connection with the actor David Swift
via Tempest Films, an independent production company, led to Munro being introduced to the Australian-born journalist John Pilger
. The two men first worked together on Do You Remember Vietnam? first shown by the ITV
network in 1978. In total Munro and Pilger collaborated on 20 television programmes for which Munro gained several awards and commendations.
Munro was married three times, to the actresses Sharon Duce
and Susan Penhaligon
(their son Truan, is also a film-maker), and to Layhing Siu, to whom he remained married for the remainder of his life. Natalia, Munro's daughter with Layhing, was born eighteen months before his death from cancer.
