Dayton is the 6th largest city in the U.S. state of Ohio and the county seat of Montgomery County, the fifth most populous county in the state. The population was 141,527 at the 2010 census. The Dayton Metropolitan Statistical Area had a population of 841,502 in the 2010 census...

 region. The paper was originally founded in the 1990s under the name The Dayton Voice. In the early 2000s, the paper's name was changed to Impact Weekly due to the pressure of a lawsuit from the nationally known newspaper, The Village Voice. In the mid 2000s, the paper's name was changed once again to the current moniker.
Similar to many alternative newsweeklies across the country, the Dayton City Paper focuses on performing and visual arts, music, film, dining, literature, and politics. The paper also features a modest rotating roster of additional weekly syndicated columnists and cartoonists including Amy Alkon's "The Advice Goddess", Chuck Shepard's "News of the Weird," Matt Groening's "Life in Hell," and Don Asmussen's "Bad Reporter." The papers qualified roster of staff and freelance writers authoritatively deliver the editorial quality its readers demand. Readers especially enjoy the weekly "debate forum" where opposing writers argue in favor or against political and social issues of the day.
