Deer Valley High School is a public high school
located in Glendale, Arizona
. It is part of the Deer Valley Unified School District
. The school opened its doors for the first time in 1980 with an enrollment of 750 students. Today, the campus is housed on more than 60 acres (242,811.6 m²), and has a current enrollment of about 2,200 students. Deer Valley High School has long been recognized for outstanding student achievement in a wide range of academic and athletic areas. The school has over a hundred teachers, five counselors, one psychologist, four administrators, and numerous support staff. The school is currently being remodeled and is scheduled to be finished before the start of the 2011 school year. The current principal is Barbara Dobbs.
The Deer Valley Performance Jazz Ensemble was selected to perform at the very prestigious 2006, 60th Annual - "Midwest Clinic - An International Band and Orchestra Conference" which can be viewed at http://www.midwestclinic.org/videos/jazz_archive.asp. The experience was published at http://www.midwestclinic.com/pdfs/motifs307.pdf. The Performance Jazz Ensemble has won 3 National Contests (2002 and 2006, Conn-Selmer Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Jazz Contest and the 2006 Music and Arts Spring Swing Competition) 2 National Runner-Ups (2003 and 2004, Conn-Selmer Big Bad Voodoo Daddy Jazz Contest) and been featured at the 2005 and 2006 Arizona Music Educator's Conference.
The Marching Band has performed in the Macy's Thanksgiving Day Parade (1994) and also in the Tournament of Roses Parade (1994) as well as the Fiesta Bowl National Pageant of Bands.
The school hosts its own Jazz Festival and currently hosts the DVUSD marching bands exhibition.
Most recently, the 2006-2007 Marching Band received a rating of Superior with Distinction at the 2006 State Marching Festival and the Performance Jazz Ensemble has been invited to perform at the 2007 Western International Band Clinic in Seattle, WA. http://www.bandworld.org
On October 20, 2007 the Marching Band received the Rating of Superior at the Arizona State University Band Day. They Also received awards for Outstanding Music, Visual, GE and Auxiliary.
The Performance Jazz Ensemble most recently had a work commissioned by Fred Sturm (http://www.fredsturm.com) called "Skyhawk". "Skyhawk" is published by the Lorenz Corporation (http://www.lorenz.com/product.aspx?id=60_1322H)
, is currently in its 31st year of publication. It runs eight issues per year, which are distributed on a monthly basis (no issue is published in August or January). The newspaper typically uses 12 pages, though some years, including 2006-2007 and 2007–2008, there are 16 pages. It regularly features news

Organized in the Squadron Format, the rest of the command staff is divided up. Other major roles are the Personnel Officer, and the Director of Information Technology. The Unit currently does not possess many ways to interact with the community outside of the school paper. The Drill Teams are what the majority of the public sees. The Drill Teams consist of Armed Drill, Color Guard, and Unarmed Drill.
During class time the unit is divided into Air Force styled flights; essentially a classroom complete with a cadet commander, cadet sergeant, and cadet guidon bearer. From this point, classes further divided into Freshman, Sophomore/Junior, and the Senior Flight.
